The Hack and Jack Classic (herein known as HJC), in official conjunction with absolutely no other governing body, is a trip occurring at once a year typically the weekend following Father’s Day and unless otherwise specified in the rules herein will be played according to USGA and local rules. Members of The HJC will value camaraderie and golfing integrity above all else.
HJC officers will be established for each trip and have designated responsibilities.
Commish:
Responsible for HJC accommodations and courses
Responsible for bringing all accommodation and course vouchers (if applicable) on trip
Responsible for HJC website content and updates
Responsible for coordinating transportation
Responsible for assigning official handicaps
Responsible for competition awards presentation
Secretary:
Responsible for collecting scorecards and verifying totals of each
Responsible for posting the standings after each round
Responsible for turning over the official scorecards to the Commish for yearly archiving
Meal Coordinator
Responsible for making decisions on what and where we will eat
Responsible for collecting funds for any group food events
Responsible for assigning “Grill Masters”
Ryder Cup Captain
Responsible for all activities and decisions for their respective team prior to, during, and after the Ryder Cup competition
General
1.1 One mulligan per round – applies to tee shot only and may be carried throughout the round.
1.1.1 Once that mulligan has been played, that mulligan has been used (i.e. No “Provisional Mulligans”). You may however, choose your original shot if your mulligan is worse.
1.1.2. Does not apply for scramble/alternate shot rounds
Ball in Play
2.1 All balls to be played as winter rules and may be “bumped” to improve the lie. The ball may not be "bumped" to an inproved cut of the course (ie. rough to fairway.)
2.2 All balls lost will be played as a lateral hazard with a 1 stroke penalty. The ball will be dropped at the place where it entered the hazard.
2.3 If he ball is dropped, and the original ball is found prior to the dropped ball being played, the original ball may be played with no penalty. If the dropped ball is played prior to finding the original, a 1 stroke penalty is assessed.
Handicaps
3.1 Players will all have predetermined handicaps prior to the competition beginning
3.1.1 Players with an active Handicap Index shall use that number for the weekend. The lowest golfer(s) will be considered scratch, and all other handicaps will be based off of that number.
3.1.2 Per USGA rules, a maximum handicap of 36 may be used.
3.1.3 If no Handicap Index is available, The Commish will base the handicap on his experience of playing with said player(s).
3.1.4 Although highly discouraged, The Commish reserves the right to modify handicaps during the weekend
3.2 Handicaps will be used as follows:
3.2.1 Best ball – full handicap used
3.2.2 Alternate shot – Handicaps of each partner will be averaged and rounded up. Strokes will be netted out, and given accordingly.
3.2.3 Scramble – Texas Scramble calculator from leaderboard.com will be used and strokes based on course slope will be given. Strokes will be netted out, and given accordingly,
Format
Ryder Cup
4.1 Competition will be played over four 18 hole rounds in the format stated on “Courses” page:
4.1.1 The final round will be individual matches. Each player will be matched with a competitor within 2 slots (not shots) of their handicap.
4.2 One point will be awarded for the winner of each match in the first three rounds and a half point will be awarded to each team in the event of a tie. Each match in individual round (Round 4) with be worth two points.
4.3 Team/Player Selection Process
4.3.1 Teams will determined by the Commish and will be officially announced by June 1st.
4.3.2 The defending Ryder Cup champion team will announce their 2-person team or individual, and the other team will announce theirs based on random positions. This process will alternate until all matches are set.
4.3.3 Individual matches will be determined by both Ryder cup captains, and announced prior to the final round of play.
4.4 Winning
4.4.1 The winner must claim the majority of available points – a tie goes to the defending champion.
4.4.2 If the teams are not the same from a previous year's Ryder Cup, the following tie-breakers will be used to determine the champion. (a) most singles matches won outright by a team (b) most best ball matches won outright by a team (c) most 2-man scramble matches won by a single team (d) most alternate shot matches won by a single team.
5. Modified Stableford Point System
5.1 1pt bogey, 2pts par, 3 points birdie, 4 points eagle, 6 points albatross/ace
5.1.1 Points will be awarded based on handicap adjustment per hole
